I recently received my doctorate from Michigan State University (MSU). At MSU, I worked in Dr. Phoebe Zarnetske's Spatial and Community Ecology Lab (SpaCE) where I researched the effects of climate change on soil microbial and plant communities and more specifically, how soil microbes mediate those aboveground responses to climate stressors. My research was conducted at the Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) Long-Term Ecological Research Site (LTER) and the University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS).
In April 2026, I will be starting a new position as a Postdoctoral Innovation Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in support of the Shift Sustainability Lab. I will be co-advised by Dr. Chris Gough, Executive Director of the Rice Rivers Center, and Dr. Garret Westlake, Vice Provost for Innovation and Strategic Design and Professor of Management. In this role, I will work to bridge and apply fundamental science generated by the Rice Rivers Center and NASA projects and teams in the Gough lab in support of The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) work focusing on nature-based solutions, especially climate mitigation, in Chesapeake Bay region tidal wetlands.
Prior to receiving my PhD, I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and pursued several fieldwork experiences thereafter. I worked seasonally in the field for five years on a range of ecological projects and gained experience in both the private and public sectors. From Michigan to the Northwest and back again to Michigan, I worked to restore ecosystems through an environmental non-profit, collected forestry data for the U.S. Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program and performed plant surveys for several projects at different universities.
